Line of research: the scholarship will be framed mainly in the research project DISCRETION. The candidate will work on the integration of quantum key distribution systems and encryptors in production facilities, following new network paradigms such as software-defined networks and virtualization of network functions. Specifically, it will work on the integration of QKD communications in Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) environments for the establishment of sessions based on QKD as a network service.
The candidate will implement secure interfaces and applications for all communications between the components of the QKD network, covering both the classical part and the software elements that control quantum communications.
Experience required: the candidate must be familiar with linux system management, and must have good knowledge of network communications, security and NFV. The candidate is expected to have a good knowledge of system administration and experience configuring and managing QKD hardware and software. It is desirable that the candidate has good programming knowledge, especially in Bash, Python and C/C++. It is also desirable to have knowledge of classical cryptography and security. We will assess the candidate’s ability to work in a team and on their own initiative, as well as their communication skills. We expect some experience developing highly technologically-ready software. Previous experience with NFV software such as OS-MANO or OpenStack will be especially valued.
