We are thrilled to announce that one of our main researchers has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept grant. This allows him to continue developing his research in fabric simulation.
Miguel A. Otaduy was previously awarded an ERC Starting Grant, thanks to which he developed the first fabric simulation model which allows real fabric behavioral simulation as detailed as each thread. With his recently awarded ERC Proof of Concept project (FabricMetrics) he and his team will be able to take that technology all the way from the basic research to a commercial prototype for fashion design.
This technology will have a key impact in predicting how a clothing garment behaves based on the detailed description of each fabric. Unlike currently marketed software, this will allow designers to define the type of fabric and be able to predict the behavior and appearence of each design. Further, FabricMetris will allow a designer to test several types of fabric for a garment without having to produce it.
